12 Modern Hallway Ideas

When furnishing a home, the hallway is often neglected – unfairly so, we believe. After all, the hall is the entrance room and thus the first area you step into when you come home.
To ensure you feel instantly comfortable every time you unlock the door, the hallway should be beautifully and cosily furnished. This is achievable in both spacious and small halls.
From furniture to colour choices – there are many ways to design a modern and inviting hallway. Our twelve ideas provide you with some inspiration for a hall that impresses both visually and practically.
1. Prioritise a Homely Atmosphere

Instead of merely equipping the entrance area with a functional coat rack and shoe cabinet, you can give it a distinctly homely character by combining a storage unit with an elegant mirror and a comfortable armchair.
Placed against a wall, the elegant Marelli Console Frame offers space for various items you wish to store in the hallway, as well as for decorative pieces. With its marbled tabletop, it also adds a successful visual accent.
A wall mirror hanging above the console is ideal for a quick check of your look before heading out. Furthermore, it can visually enlarge the room, which is why such a home accessory is indispensable, especially in a small hallway.
You can use the noble Marelli Nest Armchair multifunctionally: for example, to comfortably put on your shoes in peace, to relax while waiting for your loved ones to be ready to go out, or to spend a cosy reading evening in seclusion.
2. Create Light-Dark Contrasts

Contrasts give the hallway, like any other room, more depth and simply make it look more exciting. Therefore, we advise you to mix light and dark colours.
A wall shelf in dark brown wood with an integrated mirror and several seating options – some lighter, some darker upholstered – together create a harmoniously contrasting effect.
'Harmonious' is a good keyword, because even if contrasts are absolutely desired, the colours used should complement each other. Otherwise, it will only create visual clutter.
Harmonious contrasts are easiest to achieve if you choose two to a maximum of three coordinated colour families whose palettes you use in your hallway.
3. Utilise Stylish Furniture with Dual Functionality

Minimalist living is becoming increasingly popular. Those who live in a small flat or house must show particular creativity when furnishing to optimally combine function, comfort, and style. Sophisticated 2-in-1 design furniture is perfect for this.
At first glance, the Ozzio Console 4you is a compact storage unit that easily fits even in a narrow hallway. But it can do more: with an extension function and integrated extension leaves, it transforms in an instant into a dining table for up to ten people.
With multifunctional furnishings of this kind, you get the maximum out of a small space – both visually and practically. If many guests come for dinner, the console simply moves temporarily into the living room to serve as a stylish dining table there.
4. Furnish a Walk-in Wardrobe

In a small hallway, it's often about using the available space as efficiently as possible. For those who want or need to store a relatively large number of clothes and shoes, a walk-in wardrobe is often a good choice.
The Break model from Italian manufacturer Novamobili is individually configurable, meaning its dimensions and exact features can be adapted to your specific needs. This way, you won't waste a single millimetre.
Thanks to its open, minimalist design, the walk-in wardrobe has an airy and light appearance – even in a hall with limited space. At the same time, it offers plenty of storage for coats and jackets, shoes, and accessories.
5. Don't Forget Comfortable Seating

When furnishing the hallway, one usually thinks primarily of coat racks, chests of drawers, cupboards, and shelves – in short, storage and display options for all sorts of items. Such storage providers are important, no question, but they should be complemented by one or two seating options.
To foster the homely atmosphere mentioned in our first idea for a modern hallway, we recommend installing a softly upholstered bench like the Church model from Novamobili. This way, you can always comfortably slip into your boots or tie your trainers.
6. Dare to be Unconventional

It doesn't always have to be (just) the conventional combination of a wall coat rack, a wardrobe, and a shoe cabinet. If you have the desire and space, you can also use your hallway differently and design it unconventionally. A spacious hall, in particular, invites you to furnish some areas alternatively.
Perhaps there's space on a wall for the Ozzio Byblos Floor and Wall Shelf, which impresses with its labyrinthine design and can hold numerous books. Add a large green plant and perhaps an armchair next to it – and you already have a cosy reading and relaxation zone right in your hall.
7. Set Modern Accents with Handleless Fronts

Sometimes, specific design features are enough to make the hallway appear modern and trendy. These include, for example, handleless fronts, as featured on the bedside table and the hanging chest of drawers from Novamobili's Easy series.
The absence of handles makes the furniture appear more streamlined and uncluttered. In a way, the handleless design also creates an open, free aesthetic.
Functionality in no way suffers from this visual highlight: recessed handles on the sides allow the drawers of the Easy chests to be opened easily. Thanks to soft-close, the drawers close gently and quietly – and automatically too.
8. Use Wooden Furniture with Creative Design

Wood remains the most popular furniture material. Wooden cabinets are still preferred in hallways. However, classic wooden furniture can quickly become boring. Therefore, it's worth looking for creative solutions like the Punt Velasca Sideboard.
With its striking yet linear-minimalist design, the chest of drawers designed by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba for Punt Mobles is a real eye-catcher in the hall. The vertical pattern on the doors gives the sideboard an impressive three-dimensionality and an almost sculptural appearance.
9. Focus on the Colour Grey

Grey has been one of the absolute trend colours for several years. Furniture and home accessories in shades of grey bring a modern-elegant flair to the hallway. Combined with wood-coloured accents and natural decor, a noble and comfortable space is created.
As a central element in the grey-dominated hall, for example, the Novamobili Dora Bench with Egle Grey upholstery can function. Grey marbled floor tiles and a blue-grey wall beautifully highlight it.
A green plant next to the bench harmonises with the wooden feet of the seating furniture. Thus, in the predominantly noble ambiance created by the dominance of grey, a naturally warm note resonates, enhancing the cosiness factor in the hallway.
10. Install a Wardrobe-Chest-of-Drawers Combination with an Open Aesthetic

To return once more to the modern hallway ideas for an unusual or at least creative interior: a corresponding appearance can be achieved simply by installing a specially composed wardrobe-chest-of-drawers combination instead of a conventionally designed one.
The Novamobili Easy 4 Chest of Drawers is characterised by its open, not to say casual, aesthetic. It consists of several handleless drawers, an open shelf element, and a simply integrated coat rack. The exact configuration and colours are customisable as required.
11. Integrate Extravagant Hallway Furniture as a Statement Piece

Every room deserves a statement piece, an item of furniture that draws attention and creates that well-known 'wow' effect. The Ozzio Giulia Glass Sideboard has the potential to give the entire hallway an extravagant personality.
Its slender legs make the chest of drawers appear floating and light. However, the visual highlight is formed by the door fronts, crafted from silvered, hammered glass, which reflect the surroundings differently depending on the light. These characteristics make the sideboard a unique eye-catcher.
12. Celebrate the Material Combination of Wood and Metal

Furnished with a material combination of wood and metal, the hallway presents itself as thoroughly modern – and harmoniously contrasting. As you can see, appealing contrasts can be achieved not only through a light-dark colour mix, as in our second idea, but also through contrasting materials.
While wood embodies warmth and cosiness, metal is generally associated with coolness and hardness. What they share is a certain rusticity – and together they exude stability and security, which in turn promotes an inviting feel-good atmosphere.
If these characteristics are enveloped in a minimalist, filigree design language, such as with the Punt Malmö Sideboard and the Punt Sussex Lamp, the wood and metal acquire a wonderfully elegant touch. All these features naturally transfer to the hallway furnished in this way.
Conclusion
The hallway is just as much a part of your flat or house as the living room or bedroom and should be treated accordingly. To achieve an all-round comfortable home, we recommend paying close attention to cosiness and a stylish appearance when furnishing the hall.
Our twelve ideas for a modern hallway illustrate the multitude of design possibilities available to you. Whether light-dark and material contrasts, multifunctional furniture, or statement pieces with a 'wow' effect – furnish your hall to your taste and dare to be creative!
