15 Modern Terrace Ideas

Your terrace has the potential to become your favourite spot at home. Staycation, you know… But to truly feel like you're on holiday in your outdoor living room, it needs cosy and stylish furnishings.
Our 15 modern terrace ideas provide versatile inspiration to transform your outdoor area into a wonderful oasis of relaxation.
1. Mix light and heavy materials

Opposites attract. Contrasts create depth and an interesting ambience. This also applies to terrace design. By mixing light and heavy materials, you ensure an elegant yet stable furnishing for your outdoor living room.
While garden chairs made of aluminium and rattan exude lightness, the Todus Branta dining table, with its robust stainless steel frame and ceramic tabletop, embodies sturdiness and elegance. In combination, these elements appear extremely modern - with a certain noble touch.
2. Set up terrace furniture made of high-quality teak wood

The Oasiq Copenhagen armchair lends natural charm to the terrace. It features a minimalist Scandinavian design and is made from teak wood, which - rightly so - is one of the most popular woods for high-quality outdoor furniture.
Teak wood has a very high oil content, making it particularly durable. This exotic wood is resistant to both moisture and pests. Furthermore, it impresses with its appealing, uniform grain.
3. Create an elegant lounge area

With an elegant and comfortable lounge area, the terrace becomes a stylish outdoor relaxation zone, whether in the middle of the lawn, under a patio roof, or next to a pool. It could, for example, consist of a large corner sofa and one or more comfortable armchairs from the Oasiq Riad garden collection.
The extensive range offers various, individually combinable sofa elements - from classic 2-seaters with and without armrests, to chaise longues and corner modules. Made from sturdy, weather-resistant materials and featuring the light, slender design of the 1980s, this garden furniture series impresses both functionally and visually.
4. Choose garden furniture with a filigree frame

Garden furniture with a filigree frame, such as the Oasiq Sandur armchair, is very much on trend. They exude precisely the lightness we want to feel when we sit on our terrace to relax from everyday stress.
The armchair from Oasiq's Sandur series combines a seemingly fragile, yet absolutely stable stainless steel frame with laced seat and backrests, as well as armrests - a modern design that draws the eye.
5. Equip your outdoor living room with a weatherproof sideboard

Why shouldn't you furnish your terrace with a sideboard? It's not for nothing that the outdoor area of an apartment or house is often referred to as an "outdoor living room". Essentially, it's only logical to place a chest of drawers outside just as you would indoors.
Of course, this doesn't work with just any chest of drawers; but there are special outdoor sideboards, such as the Atrio model from manufacturer Punt. This attractive piece of furniture made of ceramic and teak wood is weather-resistant, so it can be placed anywhere you like. The sliding doors offer storage space for crockery and more.
Tip: Cleverly arranged, the sideboard can also serve as a creative privacy screen.
6. Design a seating area with multiple side tables

Generally, it doesn't take much to make a terrace cosy and inviting. Often, simply furnishing a seating area with a side table is enough. Depending on the available space and how many people wish to use the area simultaneously, several sofas and tables might be needed.
Two to three Todus Starling side tables in front of or next to a large sofa corner create excellent conditions for sociable hours with family and friends. With their round tabletops, they appear dynamic and open. Furthermore, their minimalist design contributes to a modern aesthetic.
7. Create comfort with wide upholstered armchairs

It doesn't necessarily take a sofa to furnish a terrace comfortably. This effect can be achieved just as well with comfortable garden armchairs. Two examples of the Starling model by Todus and a matching table in the middle invite you to chat and relax.
The aforementioned armchair features a graceful frame made of powder-coated stainless steel, which gives it an elegant design and the necessary stability. Thanks to the wide seating surface, equipped with outdoor-suitable upholstery, you'll sit extremely comfortably.
8. Enhance a lounge sofa with multiple decorative cushions

If you are drawn to a generous lounge sofa like the Baza model from Todus and want to make your outdoor area particularly homely, it's a good idea to enhance the sofa with several decorative cushions on both sides.
Such cushions make the sofa itself and the entire seating area appear even cosier, while also having a decorative character. It is advisable to use decorative cushions of different sizes in several shades of a colour family. The latter should harmonise with the sofa upholstery.
9. Use outdoor furniture with round shapes

Round shapes appear dynamic, soft, and harmonious. They convey unity and care, which in turn helps us to relax. In this sense, it's an excellent idea to furnish your terrace with outdoor furniture that features a round shape.
The Todus Branta dining table, for example, is round in every respect. It has a round frame, a round tabletop - and the successful combination of materials, stainless steel and ceramic, as well as the colours anthracite and white, contribute in their own way to a well-rounded overall appearance.
10. Relax on comfortably upholstered garden loungers

If you want to truly relax in your outdoor living room, it's best to furnish it in a Mediterranean style with comfortably upholstered sun loungers. Placed directly in front of the pool, such garden furniture creates the finest holiday atmosphere.
The Starling sun lounger by Todus impresses with its minimalist design, which can be easily integrated into existing terrace or garden furnishings. With its upholstered cushion and slender headrest, it's perfect for leisurely sunbathing.
11. Combine elements from a furniture series

If a large terrace is to be extensively furnished, it is advisable to combine several elements from one series, such as the Umomoku Outdoor Collection by Prostoria. This creates a harmonious whole, which pleases the eye of the beholder and evokes positive emotions - in short: creates an ambience for well-being.
The Umomoku series includes an armchair, 2- and 3-seater sofas, and a sun lounger. All furniture is made from premium quality teak wood and can be equipped with softly upholstered seat and back cushions, whose fabric cover is waterproof and therefore suitable for outdoor use.
12. Immerse your terrace in stylish grey

Grey has been one of THE trend colours for several years. No matter where shades of grey are used: they provide modern elegance. If you want to design your terrace in a modern-elegant style, grey furniture (fabrics) are therefore a viable option.
The Todus Starling garden armchair is available, among other options, with a white frame and grey upholstered cushions. It can be adorned, for example, with anthracite decorative cushions and complemented by light grey or white tables.
13. Spend romantic hours on a 2-seater chaise longue

Couples in love who wish to furnish their terrace in a way that allows them to spend relaxed, romantic hours together will greatly appreciate a 2-seater chaise longue like the Baza model by Todus.
This special sofa consists of a stainless steel frame and comfortable upholstery, whose fabric cover is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Adorned with a few cushions, a cosy snuggle nest is created outdoors in no time.
14. Provide entertainment with a game table

A completely different idea for a modern terrace: instead of a romantic paradise, it can also be transformed into a cosy oasis with entertaining elements like game tables.
Fun tournaments with family and friends can be held at the Diagonal design billiard table by RS Barcelona, for example, as part of terrace parties. Furthermore, with its unusual appearance, it acts as an aesthetic eye-catcher.
15. Pair minimalist design with maximum comfort

Those who furnish their terrace with minimalist designed and comfortably crafted furniture create a modern, cosy ambience. Furthermore, this design combination always exudes a certain luxury.
Clear and unadorned, with a focus on supreme seating comfort: this characteristic applies 100 percent to the Todus Baza garden sofa. With its soft lines and round back cushions, the sofa is the epitome of cosiness.
Conclusion
There are an incredible number of ways to design a terrace that is both functional and visually appealing. Whether with sofas or sun loungers, with side tables or sideboards, whether filigree or robust, whether understated or striking:
As long as the quality and comfort are right, and the furnishing elements match your personal taste, nothing stands in the way of cosy hours in your outdoor living room.
