15 Modern Living Room Ideas

The living room is the heart of our home – a place to relax, feel good, and spend time together. It's all the more important to furnish this space beautifully and cosily, so that it delights both visually and tactilely.
With these 15 ideas, we show you how to breathe new, modern life into your living room – whether you want to completely renovate it or just spruce it up here and there.
1. Wall unit with a floating design

A wall unit can be so much more than just a storage provider. Designed to float, it appears particularly light and elegant – qualities that transfer to the ambience of the entire living room.
A floating design is very easy to achieve. You simply need a wall unit like the Livitalia C102, whose cabinet elements are not floor-standing but are mounted suspended on the wall.
Complemented by several wall shelves, this creates diverse open storage options for books and beautiful decorative elements. Flap doors, which appear invisible thanks to a handleless front design, also offer closed storage space.
2. Tone-on-tone for a harmonious ambience

With furniture in similar colours, you can achieve a harmonious ambience in your living room. We recommend choosing two “related” colour families, such as beige and grey, and combining several shades from them.
Kept tone-on-tone, the Prostoria Sofa Match L and the Marelli Ottoman Matisse are pleasing to the eye. The latter also impresses with its handmade Capitonné finish, which lends extravagant charm to both the pouf itself and the entire room.
The colour-coordinated Marelli coffee tables Wave and Thor elegantly complete the stylish designer living room. And the Livitalia Wall Unit C100 sets a successful accent with its anthracite surfaces and glass wall shelf.
3. Combination of seating and side tables

Comfort doesn't solely depend on soft fabrics or leathers and plush upholstery; in fact, the design and arrangement of furniture in the room also play a significant role.
By strategically combining seating with side tables, you create several „islands“ in your living room, providing a place to set down anything you need, whether it's a coffee cup or the book you're currently reading.
The individual elements can easily have different colours, as long as they complement each other. For example, the Marelli Corner Sofa Oliver and the Marelli Ottoman Matisse in various shades of grey, combined with the black marbled Marelli Coffee Table Twig and the gold-coloured Marelli Side Table Clip, create a noble ensemble.
4. 3D stone-effect TV wall for exceptional natural flair

A 3D stone-effect TV wall serves as an attractive backdrop for a flat-screen television. Whether it's a spectacular nature documentary, exciting live sports, or a romantic film: the impressive surface design around the screen provides a stunning stage for every genre.
Fundamentally, this special wall design creates an extraordinary flair in the living room. It demonstrates that you can visually bring a piece of nature into your home even without brown wooden furniture.
Those who appreciate both the alternative and the classic can combine a three-dimensional stone-effect TV wall with modern grey upholstered furniture and rugs, placing these elements on a real wood parquet floor. Below the television, the colour-matched Livitalia TV Wall Shelf offers open storage space for films, decor, and more.
5. Stylish console as an appealing and practical room divider

Unlike, for example, the versatile and configurable Livitalia Oak Lowboard, open consoles are often underestimated living room furniture; yet they possess advantages that deserve attention. For instance, they frequently boast a stylish appearance, thereby enhancing the room visually.
Furthermore, an open console like the Marelli Frame with a marble tabletop and metal frame can not only be placed against a wall but also used as a room divider, for example, behind the Marelli Lounge Sofa Andy. There, it also immediately creates a practical surface for placing items while relaxing on the sofa.
6. Modern aesthetics through minimalist high-quality living room furniture

When it comes to furnishing the living room invitingly, aesthetics always play a crucial role. This can be achieved in various ways, whether with striking or distinctly minimalist designed living room furniture, where high quality is paramount not only functionally but also visually.
Naturally, the striking can also be combined with the minimalist. This is the case, for example, with the combination of the strikingly marbled Marelli Coffee Table Thor with the simple Prostoria Sofa Match L. Designed in similar tones, these designer furniture pieces create a monochrome overall look.
7. Wall unit with a swivel TV panel as a room divider

Usually, a living room combination is installed in front of and/or against a wall. However, there's another way.
The Livitalia Wall Unit C46 can also be used as a room divider, for example, to separate the living area around the Prostoria Sofa Match L and the dining table group composed of the Livitalia Obi Dining Table and the Livitalia Eva Dining Chairs in the same room.
The wall unit becomes particularly sophisticated with the Livitalia Roto Lowboard, whose swivel TV panel ensures that you can watch television from both the sofa and the dining chair – depending on where you are.
8. Coffee and side tables as statement pieces

Every room deserves one or two statement pieces that create special accents and draw the eye. In the living room, these can be not only the upholstered furniture but also the tables.
With its low, floating design, the square Novamobili Coffee Table Schatten is a real eye-catcher. It harmonises well with the Novamobili Side Table Orbis, whose thin tabletop and legs exude lightness and elegance.
9. Light-dark contrasts for more depth in the room

Harmonious contrasts can be achieved stylistically or through colour. Especially in an inherently bright room, it is worthwhile to deliberately integrate dark furniture.
The medium-grey Prostoria Sofa Cloud, light brown armchairs – and in between, the black marbled Marelli Coffee Table Thor on a light rug: Such a light-dark contrast gives the living room more depth and appears significantly more interesting to the viewer's eye than a uniformly light or dark interior.
10. Filigree dining group in the middle of the living room

If the living room is also to serve as a dining room, a filigree, minimalist-designed dining group is a charming solution. But what does filigree and minimalist mean? Possible features include a thin tabletop and slender legs, as seen in the Novamobili Filo Table.
Matching this, for example, are the equally filigree and minimalist-designed Novamobili Rose Solid Wood Chairs and the linear Novamobili Box Wall Sideboard, which provides practical storage space, for instance, for crockery.
With these features, the dining room furniture and the chest of drawers elegantly blend into the room, functioning as a central focal point as well as at the periphery, for instance, if you wish to highlight your sofa or favourite armchair.
11. Cosy lounge corner with two big sofas

Sometimes a single large sofa simply isn't enough to regularly spend cosy evenings with family and friends. Provided there's enough space, it's therefore advisable to set up two big sofas, for example, from the Prostoria Match L Model.
Different arrangements are conceivable. Depending on the layout of the living room and how you wish to furnish it overall, you can place the sofas side-by-side or opposite each other with a coffee table like the Livitalia Frame in the centre.
In any case, two generous sofas create a comfortable upholstered zone where it's a pleasure to play a board game together, engage in lively conversation, or watch a good film. Speaking of watching films: the stylistically flexible Livitalia Box Lowboard, for example, is well-suited as a TV cabinet.
12. Comfortable corner sofa with many scatter cushions

To furnish the living room invitingly without using too much space for the sofa, a corner sofa often proves effective. It optimally utilises the space in the chosen corner of the room.
By using several scatter cushions, the comfort factor of the sofa corner can be further enhanced. It is advisable to use different sizes and several shades from one or two colour families.
The Marelli coffee tables Wave and Thor, along with the Livitalia Glass Wall Shelves, not only stylishly complete the modern Marelli Corner Sofa Oliver but also offer practical storage and display options around the upholstered furniture.
13. Living area in trendy grey

The (non-)colour grey has been fully on-trend for several years, also in furniture. It exudes simple elegance and harmonises practically with every living style and colour. In this sense, the grey Marelli Lounge Sofa Andy always forms an attractive base around which you can furnish your living room to your taste.
Whether standing on a white or black rug, framed by brightly lacquered or wood-coloured furniture like the Livitalia Low Coffee Table and the Livitalia Wooden Lowboard, or embedded in a classic or modern interior – a grey sofa landscape offers maximum design flexibility.
It can also be combined with trendy furniture such as the Marelli Frame Console. If the living room also functions as a dining room and the dining area is to feature impressive handcrafted furniture, then, for example, the solid wood table and the armchairs from the Ten series by Conde House harmonise with the grey living area.
14. Various surface textures

Why limit yourself to just one surface texture when there are so many different ones?! Combining multiple textures brings dynamism into the room and makes the living room more vibrant and consequently more exciting.
Generally, we advise mixing smooth with richly textured elements, for example, the low Novamobili Shadows Coffee Table with a sofa whose upholstery is made of velvety fabric. Such contrasts highlight the properties of the individual materials even better.
15. Multiple seating areas

A living room with diverse seating areas available appears extremely inviting. Those with the necessary space can use it, for example, to integrate the Marelli Matheus Sofa, a few armchairs, and the Marelli Ottoman Matisse. In a more distant corner of the room, there might also be space for a dining group.
Speaking of tables: As with other modern living room ideas, it should also be noted here that seating areas appear particularly appealing when a square Marelli Coffee Table Thor, the compact Marelli Mini Side Table, or the round Marelli Clip Side Table is located in the immediate vicinity, to provide a place to set things down if needed.
Conclusion
From floating designs to consoles and wall units that function as room dividers, to cosy islands created by combining seating with tables: consider our 15 tips for a modern living room as inspiring ideas to design your own oasis of well-being.
