The 69th Cologne Furniture Fair IMM Cologne has reopened and presents the latest living trends, lighting concepts, wall designs, and decoration ideas. In the living area, a trend towards smaller furniture is noticeable, allowing for more flexible arrangement and personal expression.
Small sofas, chaises longues, armchairs, wingback chairs with several small side tables are widely represented, as are compact and partly multifunctional furniture. Manufacturers seem to have specialised more in smaller living spaces. Not only is smaller furniture easier to transport, but it can also be more easily integrated into a different floor plan. Retro forms are still used, but are not as strongly represented as in recent years. The design language is generally softer and more understated.

On the one hand, it's the Smart Home theme with many technical refinements in clear forms and smooth surfaces, and in clear contrast, the theme of natural materials. Furniture made of natural wood, accessories made of rough stone and woven wool with natural colours. Velvet and corduroy are also still on the rise and are often used for seating furniture in rich or glossy colours.

A lot has also happened with wall colours; the motto is away from grey and towards blue, with many shades of blue in combination with dark floors being the latest trend. Brass, velvet, dark marble, terrazzo, and glass go well with this. Luminaires made of transparent materials, mild and bright colours, and clear forms complete the ambience. The new Pantone colour Violet is also represented and fits perfectly into the overall picture. The interplay of dark hues, fine sheen, and feminine, rather rounded forms is called eclecticism, a balanced mix of styles.
