At what height should you hang your TV?
Dieser Post ist von 12. Jan 2025 by Livarea.
In today's blog post, we address a frequently asked question: How high should my TV be hung? As we've often seen TV sets mounted too high and frequently receive queries from customers on this topic, we want to cover all important points today and explain what truly matters.
How do I know if my TV is placed at the wrong height?
If you have a high-quality sofa with a good seating position, the following signs may indicate that the TV's position is not optimal:
- You unconsciously slide down in the sofa – the TV set is positioned too low.
- Your head constantly falls back – the TV is mounted too high.
- Your eyes start to strain – the height is also not optimal.
- Neck tension occurs – the TV's position should be checked.

Should I hang my TV or place it on a stand?
After purchasing a new TV set, many wonder whether the TV should be placed on a TV unit or hung on the wall. This decision largely depends on personal preferences but should be well thought out. Here's a pros and cons list:
Pros:
- Large TVs appear lighter.
- More modern overall look.
- Greater adjustment angle possible with a wall mount.
- Height can be optimally chosen independently of the furniture piece.
Cons:
- Higher installation effort.
- Wall mount required.
- Visible cables (if not routed within the wall).
- Load-bearing wall required.
Those who shy away from the effort of wall mounting can place the TV on a suitable designer TV lowboard. Pay attention to the optimal TV unit height to achieve the ideal viewing position. If necessary, a professional should install the wall mount.
At what height should the TV be placed?
Whether the TV is hung on the wall or placed on a piece of furniture: There is no universally valid ideal height. The optimal height depends on the size of the TV set and your seating position.
The optimal viewing point is in the upper third of the screen. Most image activities are displayed here, requiring fewer head and eye movements. This leads to a more relaxed viewing experience.

Another important factor is the seating height: For a lounge sofa with a low seating position, the TV should be hung lower than with more upright seating furniture. The head should always be kept relaxed and straight to avoid tension.
Finding the right height, in brief:
- Take a comfortable seating position.
- Align your head straight and relaxed.
- Focus a straight gaze on the wall.
- Have a point marked on the wall.
- Align the upper third of the TV screen with this point.
What else do I need to consider?
The proportions of the TV unit are crucial for a harmonious overall look. The furniture piece should be wider than the TV, with the overhang not exceeding 20 cm. This way, nothing stands in the way of a visually appealing living room wall unit.
The height of the TV in the bedroom
The same principles apply in the bedroom as in the living room. However, the TV can be mounted higher here to ensure optimal viewing when lying down. Some wardrobes with integrated TV compartments offer standardised heights.
